Walks
There is an extensive network of over 10 kms of paths, and 160km of roads and firebreaks,,,, perfect for an amble or a more strenuous challenge. The concession is an important site for the study of trees, hosting a working herbarium and with over 280 different tree species identified, it is a tree lover’s paradise. A walk down the dry river bed of the Tissadze is always interesting.

Há uma extensa rede de mais de 10 km de caminhos e 160km de estradas e linhas quebra-fogo, perfeito para um passeio à vontade ou um desafio mais pesada. A concessão é um local importante para o estudo de árvores, oferecendo um herbário com mais de 280 espécies diferentes de árvores identificadas. É um paraíso para os amantes de árvores. Um passeio para o leito seco do Rio Tissadze é sempre interessante.
Birding
A renowned birding site, keen birders will be interested to know that at Catapu they stand a chance of seeing Chestnut Fronted Helmet Shrikes, the African Pita and the Narina Trogon, as well as a variety of fly catchers, hornbills, the Green Malkoha and many other species.

Game viewing
Wildlife is still recovering, but careful protection of the concession means that guests are often privileged to see red duiker, suni, nyala, impala, warthog, mongoose, squirrels, bushbuck, baboons and samango monkeys, and occasionally Kudu, Oribi, Sharps Grysbok, and for the lucky few leopard, buffalo and wild dog. At night the chorus of night apes and tree dassies can be heard from around the camp fire.

The 160 kms road and firebreaks serve a perfect network for the adventurous mountain biker.

Citizen Zoologist/Botanists
Catapu is a world waiting to be discovered, over 600 taxa have been identified to date and the number is steadily increasing.
Visit the herbarium to have a look at the 250 tree species that have been catalogued.
